Agency Funding 


Variety the Children’s Charity of St. Louis annually distributes grants to qualified agencies
in the Greater St. Louis area who request funding for programs and/or services that directly impact the lives of children with physical and mental disabilities. Click here to see a list of our current partner agencies.

PRE-QUALIFICATION SCREENING 
Agencies may contact Karen Haglin at Variety by calling 314/453-0453, ext. 111, to receive an application upon affirmation that the agency: 

• has a not-for-profit with 501(c)(3) status
• serves children with physical and/or mental disabilities who are disadvantaged 
• conducts an annual audit
• is not a government (federal, state, local) organization 
• operates within the KMOV Channel 4 viewing area 
• what does the agency do


APPLICATION
• Application is received at the annual Variety Agency Workshop, which will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2010.
• Completed application is received in the Variety office. 
• Applications must submit the following supplementary materials: 
    º Audited financial statements 
    º Tax Form 990 
    º Federal IRS Tax Exempt letter (501(C)(3)) 
    º Documentation of Expenditures 
    º Proof of certification 
    º Names and addresses for Board of Directors and Executive Staff 
    º Copy of Annual report, Newsletter and Brochure 
    º Copy of Scholarship form letter sent to recipients (if applicable) 
    º Signed Sunshine Coach Van Agreement (if applicable)


GRANT GUIDELINESVariety’s funding must provide direct program benefit to children with physical and mental disabilities. 

Desired Projects for Variety funding 
• Program serves children with physical disabilities such as Down Syndrome, Autism, Spina bifida, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, etc. 
• Program serves children with mental disabilities such as mental retardation, developmental delays, behavioral disorders, etc. 
• Programs/projects will utilize Variety funding within one year from receipt of grant
• Programs/projects that serve the greatest number of children meeting the above criteria.

FUNDING PRIORITIES
• Program grants may include but are not limited to: 
    º Durable Medical Equipment 
    º Transportation - Sunshine Coaches vans to transport children 
    º Need-based Scholarships (full name and recognition letter required for each recipient) 
    º Salaries related to specific program activity

• Program grants may NOT include: 
    º Hospital/Doctor’s Fees 
    º Research 
    º Building Drives/capital campaign 
    º Medical Prescriptions - Drugs 
    º Sponsorships 
    º Pass- through organizations 
    º Programs/services/projects funded by United Way
    º Admin salaries

Sarah's Story

William Shakespeare wrote, “All the world’s a stage.” In Sarah’s world, her place is not on the stage, but in the wings managing the show. The high school senior has been involved in school productions since ninth grade, but it wasn’t until she served as assistant stage manager for the Variety Children’s Theatre production of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” that she realized just how big a role theatre plays in her life.
