Bikes for Kids

Thank you to our sponsors and volunteers for helping us give the gift of freedom!
Variety the Children's Charity of St. Louis and the St. Louis Rams fulfilled the dreams of hundreds of deserving children by giving them their first bicycle!

Nothing symbolizes freedom and mobility to a child more than a bicycle. This year, the Bikes for Kids program expanded to provide therapeutic bikes to Variety kids with physical disabilities, in addition to the traditional bicycles Variety has been gifting for 13 years. Therapeutic bikes cost between $1,500 and $3,000 and are customized to each child, based upon his or her specific needs.

Through this program, more than 2,000 bikes have been delivered to children (ages 5-14) throughout the St. Louis area. In addition to the bicycle, children receive:
  • Helmet & fitting
  • Bike lock
  • Safety instruction
The 2009 Bike Build was held at Whitfield School on Saturday, Nov. 14!  The dedication and hard work of more than 100 volunteers gave 275 St. Louis children the opportunity to take home their first bicycle. The children who received the bikes came from 12 Variety partner agencies as well as several Variety families.
