Libby's a natural in the spotlight

Libby is used to the spotlight. She loves to dance, sing, speak – and in general, perform for others. But she doesn’t let any of the attention go to her head!

She’s a natural onstage, performing for many years with the Variety Children’s Chorus – even traveling to perform at the White House…twice! Libby has taken the stage at Variety telethons, Dinner With the Stars and other appearances as a former Variety “poster child.”

Libby has also performed onstage at the Muny, as Mayor Shin’s daughter in The Music Man, as well as at the Fox Theatre in The Nutcracker with the Joffrey Ballet. The Wizard of Oz is her third musical with Variety Children’s Theatre, and each experience has been unique. She specifically loves the dancing in The Wizard of Oz – lots of twirling and interesting movements in her wheelchair. Libby was born with spina bifida and uses a manual wheelchair to get around.

The high school sophomore was in her school choir for awhile, but it was a very different type of singing. “I’m just not into tall vowels,” she said with a smile.

Libby, who also enjoys reading and horseback riding, sees Variety Children’s Theatre as an opportunity to do something she loves. “I’ve loved it for as long as I can remember, and I’m going to keep doing it for as long as I can.”
