Young Variety proudly hosted the first Bowling for Bikes fundraiser on November 5, 2011. At the event, enough money was raised for a Variety child to receive a therapeutic bike at Variety's annual Bikes for Kids event in December.
Carrying a hefty price tag of $1,500-$3,000, therapeutic bikes are custom-designed for children with disabilities who are unable to operate a traditional bike due to muscle limitations. Imagine sitting on the sidewalk while all of your friends and siblings ride their bikes around the neighborhood! Thanks to therapeutic bikes, our Variety kids are no longer left out of the fun!
Bowling for Bikes was open to 40 teams of six and included three hours of bowling and shoe rental. Each team received one XL Imo's St. Louis-style pizza, plus three pitchers of beer...and prizes were awarded to the teams with the highest score, best team name and most outrageous team uniforms.
